Why GHD is NOT GOOD in making authentic old hollywood vintage hairstyles

A while ago I posted katy perry's 50s glamour hairstyle instructions using ghd, where I was highly skeptical. Today I found out that GHD has a youtube channel, where they actually show you how to get Katy's vintage glamour look.

I got excited when she was setting her hair in standing pin curls, as the setting pattern looks good. Then just as I predicted, the results were very underwhelming. It doesn't look like Katy's hair in the Advertisement at all. The curls were way too loose and messy for a 50s vintage do, not much structure.

GHD also had all these other videos for making vintage-esque glamour hairstyles, all equally rubbish in my opinion!

Interestingly, this video shows GHD can be used for heating and setting pin curls. But I think the mediocre results are really not worth the trouble and effort.

As if using ghd to create 50s waves wasn't enough. Danillo, Gwen Stefani's hairdresser is hired to create roaring 20s flapper hair with this device.

Apparently you can use ghd to even create 1920s fingerwaves. LOL!  As seen on Katy Perry's new ad campaign. I am interested in seeing them posting a how-to on this. Because I think only someone with hairdressing skills like Danilo can pull this off with a GHD.

MY VERDICT:

If you want sleek straight hair or boho waves, yes go for ghd. For AUTHENTIC old hollywood glamour curls, it's a waste of time. There are much easier tools with better results.

I don't know why they're branching out into vintage hairstyles in the first place. Maybe it's to increase market share and captalize on the "vintage" trend. I think ghd should stick to what they do best: hair straightening.
